Yes, I build WordPress sites for a living, so you know my bias walking in. But I get asked about Wix weekly and I would rather give a straight answer than a sales pitch. AI changed this comparison, so here is the 2026 version.
What AI changed
Both platforms will now generate a site from a text prompt. Wix does it in one slick guided flow, and for a solo operator who needs a clean page online today, it genuinely works. WordPress gets there with AI builders and plugins, less polished as a first-run experience, far more powerful after that.
Where Wix makes sense
You want one site, you will never touch code, you accept the monthly fee forever, and you do not care about migrating later. That describes plenty of small businesses and there is no shame in it.
Where WordPress wins
Ownership and ceiling. Your content is portable, plugins exist for anything, and hosting on Hostinger costs less than a Wix plan while giving you room to add booking, membership, e-commerce, or AI features nobody has invented yet. Every serious growth story I have worked on eventually needed that ceiling.
My actual recommendation
If the website IS the business, or will feed it leads for years, start on WordPress so you never hit the wall. If you need a digital business card by Friday, Wix is fine, and when you outgrow it, migrating is a solved problem. I do those migrations regularly.
